Last week, on 17 September, we had the honour of presenting the documentary ‘Catching the Olympic Spirit’ by Paolo Santoro at the Hotel Klosterhof in Bayerisch Gmain. The film was produced in cooperation with Athletes for Ukraine (A4U) and with the financial support of all Salzburg Rotary Clubs.
In the film, we follow 7 young athletes and sports enthusiasts from Ukraine and Austria who travelled to Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games to experience the Olympic spirit up close.

Helene Meingasser (child reporter) herself reported on the film premiere: ‘17 September 2024 – the day of the film premiere. Today our film crew made their way to Bayerisch Gmain to see our documentary film Catching the Olympic Spirit for the first time. The beautiful ambience of the Klosterhof was perfect for our premiere. The evening started with a champagne reception, where you could already feel the excitement among us young people. After all, most of us had no idea what it felt like to watch a film in which we ourselves were featured. Before the actual climax, we got into the mood with some French and Ukrainian music. And then it finally started – Yuri, Paolo and Jonah said a few words to the guests and then the film began. Everyone listened intently to what we had to say about our trip. It was an incredible feeling to watch our own film. The evening was rounded off with a cosy drink in the hotel bar. Even though we will part ways again after this evening, this trip will connect us for a lifetime and we will always look back on our time in Paris in a positive light.’
We would also like to thank Natalia Vilhova (violin) and Dmitry Kutsov (piano) for their great musical accompaniment of the evening.
We would like to thank all the participants and supporters who made this project possible and look forward to continuing our collaboration!
